The TE Air is not trying to replace that. It is better understood as a quick diagnostic tool for focused questions. Is there fluid? Is the bladder full? Where is the vessel? Is this tendon area likely to respond to treatment?
For example, if your clinic already uses a shockwave therapy device for tendon pain, a small ultrasound can help you locate the treatment area before you apply the therapy. That combination is common in sports medicine. In that setting, the TE Air is often easier to use than pulling a large console into a small treatment room.
The trap is expecting one device to do everything. If you ask a handheld ultrasound to do a full fetal anatomy scan or an advanced echocardiogram, you will probably be disappointed. That isn't a product flaw. It's a scope issue.

So, TE Air Mindray or a full-size Mindray ultrasound machine?
If your main needs are FAST exams, vascular access, quick musculoskeletal checks, or rescue imaging in an emergency, the Mindray TE Air is probably the better first purchase. Not because it is cheaper, but because it is faster. If your main needs are scheduled diagnostic scans that require advanced measurements and multiple specialty transducers, choose a full-size Mindray ultrasound machine.
And if you have space and budget, many facilities logically end up with both. One unit handles complete scans in the ultrasound suite; the other lives close to the bedside for the moment when distance is the real clinical problem. That answer may sound like a hedge, but in my experience it reflects reality. In emergency medicine, the best device is the one that is already where the patient is.
